Redevelopment of the Molson Brewery site
5 June 2019Landmark agreement for the benefit of the community
Montreal and Laval, June 5 2019 — The consortium composed of Selection Group and Montoni is proud to highlight the outstanding work that has enabled them to reach an agreement in principle between the Ville de Montréal, the SHDM and the Molson Coors brewery. This mutual agreement, which was ratified earlier today during the city’s executive committee meeting, sets out the conditions related to the transfer of part of the Molson Brewery site, located on Notre-Dame Street, to create a new community park.
The consortium applauds this agreement, which respects and highlights their shared vision of the project. The addition of a park covering 13200 m2 is one of the many examples of how beneficial this project will be, not only for future residents, but also for all Montrealers wishing for better access to the river.
The idea of revitalizing the area and developing a public park on the site is a vital part of the consortium’s collective vision, which was presented during the public consultations conducted by the Office de la consultation publique de Montréal, regarding the urban planning of the Faubourgs sector. Other key components of this vision relate to principles related to sustainable redevelopment, diversity, inclusiveness on a human scale, respecting the site’s existing heritage, including a wide range of new housing, access to high-quality services and the creation of an employment hub.
The Founding President and Chief Executive Officer at Selection Group, Mr. Réal Bouclin, noted that ‘’from the start, our objective has been to create a true sense of community, where everyone can thrive and enjoy common high-quality spaces. Today’s agreement is in line with our vision and efforts to promote the attractiveness of the Molson Brewery site and showcase its longstanding heritage”.
Montoni’s President, Mr. Dario Montoni, also views this agreement enthusiastically, noting that ‘’this project will mark an invaluable chance for our respective teams to contribute, through their expertise and know-how, to building a completely reinvented sector for Montrealers, not only for its commercial vocation, but also residential and social. The area is rich in history and we are proud to participate in writing this new page’’.
Mr. Frederic Landtmeters, President and Chief Executive Officer at the Molson Coors brewery, highlighted his sense of pride at being a part of such a meaningful transition for the historical Notre-Dame Street brewery site. ‘’We are proud of our Montreal roots and are committed to the growth of the neighbourhood and of the entire city. That is why, from the start, we expressed a profound desire that the redevelopment of the site provides a new neighbourhood for Montreal, honouring the rich history of the brewery and the Molson family. We regard this agreement very favourably, as it creates a lasting legacy that will be beneficial to all Montrealers.’’
‘’This mutual agreement is the result of an exemplary collaborative effort between the Ville de Montréal, the SHDM, Selection Group, Montoni and the Molson Brewery Company’’, concluded Mr. Bouclin.
Numerous technical, contractual and financial steps of this development remain to be taken. These will be addressed in a future announcement to the community in the upcoming months.
